Bill is doing a huge part in helping the RMATA along with the newsletter and imput on many other things.
Rex, I was in Perth once. I actually went to Australia 7 times back in 96 and 97. My favorite place was Sidney and my least favorite was Cairns (too many US military people there). I met a sheila there that actually flew over to pursue things... but it didnt work out.
I hope to get to visit again someday... of all the countries I've been to (10) Australia was my favorite.

That is a great article and Burton is right on 100% in my opinion. That pretty much sums up my training philosophy. If you can get his permission I'd like to post his article under the "Philosophy" section of rmata.com and give him credit for it of course.
I always advocate simulating everything that is involved in a real fight when training. When my students and I spar we often do so in all ranges of combat, while simulating eye gouging, biting, groin strikes, hidden weapons, the suprise buddy, external items (chairs, tables, bottles, etc). In addition to this "NHB" sparring as we call it, we also have sparring with much more limited rules, such as kickboxing sparring only, boxing pm;y, takedowns only, clinch strikes only, clinch strikes with takedowns only, submission grappling only, etc.
It's much easier to train for a real fight and then adjust your methodology for a sport competition than it is to train for a sport competition and then try to adjust your methodology for a real fight.

Good post JWB. Alot of truth in it. Alot of people get stuck in what they do and just close their minds to anything else. Oh well... there are enough people interested in learning and growing that I don't have time to worry about the closed minded ones.

Ya, thats the basics of it armyofone. What I really like about it is that I quickly found many people through it that I had not seen or heard from in years. Many folks that I knew in other countries or while I was in the Marines. Also I've run into lots of my former students there. It's nice to keep in touch with them and see where their lives have taken them.
I also like the blog feature. It's a place where you can rant and rave and have folks that know you check it out if you want.
It's more addictive/ fun than one would realize at first. Once I started looking for old people I knew and finding them I was hooked.

A buddy of mine rescently got me started on this myspace thing. I always thought it would be neat to have an online diary (blog). I got to thinking more about this when I saw Johnny Guerrero's blog. I checked out myspace and found that they have forums for any topic that you could ever think of. I was also pretty surprised to find several people that I already know on there. Anyways, if your a myspace'er then post the link to your site! If not, check it out... you may find something you like. Here is mine; www.myspace.com/vincentfields

I've had a few questions about this so I thought I'd share it with ya'll. I also realize that I might get some very good suggestions/ thoughts/ comments about it.
I am now writing my thesis for my master's in Administration of Justice. Here is my topic question;
Do police officers who regularly partipate in realistic martial arts training both cause and receive fewer injuries on the job than police officers who do not?
Of course I define all of my terms, and I'll share a bit of that with you.
"Regularly" is defined of as at least 4 hours per month. Any less than that and I'm not interested in studying what effect it may have.
"Realistic martial arts training" briefly consists of those who do whatever combative type of training they do with full resistance in every range of combat. In a nutshell, they spar and grapple.
I hypothesize that officers who do regularly engage in realistic martial arts training do in fact cause and recieve fewer injuries on the job than those that don't. However, I have not reached that conclusion just yet in my paper... stay tuned.
I'll be sure and post it here when it is finished.

The curriculum will be released very soon... stay tuned bro. I hope you guys can make it over for the skills camp. Still plenty of time to work out the scheduling!

Johnny,
What your already doing is great... spreading the news via word of mouth. Also, the t-shirts are a great way to get people interested. We have some of the best t-shirt designs I've ever seen and they attract attention everywhere. Along those same lines are the patches and static cling stickers for your car. I have patches on my training shorts, GI, and gym bag.
Whenever my students and I train we always wear the RMATA shirts. It not only looks more professional, but people come up and want to ask about training and we can basically just have them go to the website on the shirts, which saves us time.
Thanks Johnny. See you at the skills camp?

Eric,
Good to have you here. We have very little BS here. The folks who come here know that this is a place for discussing serious issues about realistic MA training and related subjects (of course posts on any subject are welcome on the appropriate board). So far the only small problems we've had are people coming here to spam the board with their product or martial arts school who arent a*sociated with the RMATA at all. Not a problem though, we just point folks in the right direction and keep movin on.
Robert, Absolutely... it's great to have you groundfight guys here!

We have some EXTREMELY STRONG suspicions, but until there is proof we don't want to point fingers. Please everyone leave it at that until Bill ever posts definite proof about it. Thanks.
By the way, the type of martial artst POLITICS involved with having such a big EGO that you would have hackers shut down someone's martial arts forum is exactly the sort of the thing the RMATA tries to stay away from. We can continue to be forward thinking, positive, and productive together.

Anyways, all ya'll from the groundfight forum... WELCOME!! Feel free to jump right in with both feet folks and make yourself at home!
