I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a weight training rotine designed for mma. Should a workout be total body 3x a week. or an up body lower body spilt. Also what kind exercises are best.

You don't need to do a lot of weight training for MMA in general. Focus maily on cardio: Sprints, hill running, stadiums, jogging, swimming, eliptical trainer, etc......And rolling on the mat during Jiu Jitsu, AND kickboxing and bag work......If you still have time after that to do some weight training then focus on "multi joint" types of lifts. I'll give you just a couple right now that are good, that will also work cardio:
-power cleans with an olympic bar -Dead lifts
I would focus more on plyometrics though (body weight exercises)
--Ultraman

In my opinon, weight training for MMA should focus on "core" activation and muscular endurance.

The Bas Rutten MMA workouts are great. You can also include weight training in these, which he explains how to do. I'd recommend them way more than any weightlifting routine for MMA.

In my experience, a two week cycle of kettel bell lifting with sandbag work, then a two week cycle of body weight condition, like hindu squats, hindu push ups is best. But working the neck (Bridges are best) and the core during both weeks, is essential
