thought some of you might be interested in this little bet i had with a friend. A friendly 100$ bet regarding cutting weight down to a certain weight. That weight being 194lbs. Today was the weigh in day (Sunday 11-20-05), I had about a week to lose the weight but i really didn't start until tonight. I was originally at 204 last Sunday, and the same today as well just prior to starting at 7PM.
I remembered losing 10lbs during a 2hr. wrestling practice in high school (graduated 1984), while wearing a rubber/plastic suit and sweats over the top of it during the whole practice.
Note that i had been limiting my food and water intake quite a bit in the last two days so i really was already a little dehydrated and had only eaten some toast and a small bowl of cereal today much earlier in the afternoon. Also note that i took about 4 pota*sium pills prior to starting this process. If you do not do this you will feel incredibly lousy during the process and even will feel really bad later on after rehydrating. Be careful not to overdo the pota*sium pills as you can OD on them b/c they are fat soluble. They keep electrolytes more balanced during the process. Better to do this than just to rely on gatorade or pedialyte afterwards. By then you already feel lousy.
Anyway, tonight i started the process at 7PM. I first began to take some "water pills" (over the counter), and then went to the YMCA. I sat in the sauna/hot box for 1hr. with just shorts on and taking a few breaks for a minute or two during this time.
I continued to take a total of about 4 water pills during the total time period.
At 8PM i left the YMCA and put on a rubber/plastic spa suit and a sweat suit over this, along with a ski hat and the hat from my sweat suit. This was to keep the heat in and the sweat continuing to flow.
Went home and put on ANOTHER plastic/rubber spa suit over the two outfits i had on already. Kept on the beanie hat and Hoodie hood. And, around my waist i put one of those neoprene "fat man" belts. Then turned on the heat way up in my condo.
During this period since i got home and 1100PM, i wore all of those suits and I did 3 bouts of moderate cycling on the "air dyne" bike (arms and legs working with the resistance of a fan blade on the front wheel like in the TUF shows on Spike TV) that i have in the condo while watching TV. Each bout was about 20minutes long and i rested and sweated for about 30minutes between bouts. During the rest periods i was VERY hot and sweating profusely. And then when i got back on the bike i was able to raise my temp. back up again.
Note that it wasn't easy at all, and i have had previous experience with the pains of cutting weight in high school wrestling. Although i will turn 40 on Nov. 30th (in a couple of days), so high school was a while ago.
But i still remember what it feels like to lose that weight. I was regularly 5lbs over weight on the day of matches. And it's surprising that the body remembers these things. I can say that the PAIN was about the same. It is VERY miserable sensation to do this much weight cutting. A few times i started to feel a little dizzy, and kind of agitated as well. At times I also felt a little nauseated. But at least I won the bet......
