Here in VA Beach the Bail Bonds and Fugitive Recovery business is quite plentiful. I am considering possibly going into that line of work and was wondering what others thought of this business in general. Do we have any recovery agents on the board? Keep in mind, it isn't like what you see on "Dog the Bounty Hunter", that represents about 5% of your actual work, perhaps less. It's the detective work and tracking that catches my interest but anyway, what say you?

Bill, I have always been interested in this sort of business. My degree is in Administration of Justice and it has also piqued my interest in this field.
There is a good older movie that I cant remember the name of. The main character was an older white gentleman who ran a bail bonds business and he did fugitve recovery on the side. He was extremely professional and I really liked the movie. I think Robert Deniro might have been one of the bad guys in the movie as well. Anyway, you might like it if you get a chance to see it. If I remember the name I'll post it here later.
Keep us informed of any information you get about this business or if anything develops in the future with you doing it. I could deffinently see myself doing something like that part time. Not only the detective work, but then also dressing up like "Dog" with tight arm bands and growing a mullet.. of course.

LOLOLOL! Actually he is a great example of how not to "look" in that line of work. Hell, the fugitive would see him coming a mile away, and his wife? Forget about it!

We could pin a fake one on you Boyd. Very debonaire.
(I had to look debonaire up to make sure I spelled it right).
deb·o·nair also deb·o·naire Audio pronunciation of "debonaire" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (db-nâr) adj.
1. Suave; urbane. 2. Affable; genial. 3. Carefree and gay; jaunty.

LOL. Brilliant! We deffinently have a great look going for Boyd here. I'm not sure if Boyd is married or not... but if so we need to see how his wife's face would look on Dog's wife's body. Could be a great fugitive recovery team.

Hi Bill, I am now of full time police officer but before I converted I was a Recovery Agent in Indiana for about 3 years full time. I loved every minute of it. Good money, make your own hours, but poor insurance. Dog the Bounty Hunter is horible to say the least. I worked for a company based in New Jersey with Headquarters in Bakersfield, CA., while I was based in Indiana. I got to travel all over the US but stayed mainly in Indiana so the travel was a vacation and not a burden. To do recovery work you need to have investigative tools, be slick with people (even con at times), and finally the good part, you have to have excellent physical combatives. Just like police work you'll get in more fights than shoot outs, but the big difference is as a reovery agent you very rarely have back up, no radio, others probably don't know where you are at, and sooner or later you'll find yourself in a strange muddy basement at 2am when you realize you forgot what street your on and now you see the head of someone hidng behind a concrete wall (that never happened to me). The detective work is fun unless it is surveillance.

From what I know of Bill and what I know of LEOs (my dad was Cheif of Safety and Security for the Denver school system and my older brother is a Federal Marshall and Vice Sgt in Vegas), Mr. Cogswell has an excellent investigative mind!

I bought a VHS copy of that flick some years ago. Very funny and entertaining.
