Hey guys.
I'm a purple belt in BJJ under Marcos Flexa of Carlson Gracie, been training BJJ for over 4 years and I've been teaching cla*s since I became a blue belt. I've also got roughly 20 years of judo under my belt.
I've been approached by several people to give them private lessons. They're willing to pay, mostly because there are very few good instructors in the area, and people seem to like my teaching style (I only teach moves I can pull off myself in competition, no nonsense, high percentage stuff, gi and no-gi)...
Now here's the question. How much do you think I can charge someone for an hour of private instruction, without coming across as a money wolf, or downright insane (for either charging way too little or way too less...)?
any ideas?
thanx!

I teach in Amsterdam. My teacher doesn't do privates anymore because he's super busy with his mandatory immigration course. We run the school together. I teach one cla*s, he teaches the other.

that hard to say because how much stuff costs depends greatly on location... what you pay in one country is different to another...even where in the country.
im terrible at taking money from people, and i think there are a few factors that might help
-is it money on the side of your normal work, or are you hoping to make a fair chunk of your living from it? - what do other teachers of other arts charge locally? bjj is pretty trendy and i think you can charge the same as a basic black belt karate/taekwondo teacher if you cant find other bjj guys teaching.. - what do you feel your time is worth? theres nothing worse than giving your time up if you're doing it for a little more money, and you dont feel rewarded - what does your teacher think your time is worth? - how much are you putting yourself out? where will you be training, what are the overheads for you? I knew a guy who taught a guy privately and would spend 2 hours getting there and 2 hours getting back...
If you want to build up a big client base for privates charge cheaper...
If in was back in the uk i think id be happy to pay 25-30 pounds, i think thats about 40 or 50 euros
hope thats helpful

thanks man. I've deceided to ask my instructor what HE charged when he still taught privates, and than go below that price, so that I don't offend him

Personally, I would just talk to the student to what they think is fair and go from there.
