I'd rather be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I was just wondering....How does a fighter/trainer determine what fighting weight is right for him/his fighter?
Of course there are charts that show the "acceptable" height/weight relations, but many of those are outdated or don't really apply in this case.
Hoping someone out there had experience with this....
Thanks, Johnny

Good question Johnny. I have always been a heavyweight and thus never had to worry about making weight issues, hopefully someone with some experience in this subject will answer.
I know my best weight personally is about 240 and I'm 6'4, but everyone has different builds.

Well I haven't competed...yet. As we've talked about before, as an adult my weight has been anywhere from 164 to 242 and everywhere in between. I'm 5-8 and have some broad shoulders. I think I feel pretty good at 185 or so, but not sure what would be best for my frame. Thanks.

I would think that if you got your body fat % down to around 10% that you would then be in a good position to know which way to adjust your ideal weight. Otherwise you'll just be speculating. Probably somewhere near 180 I'd guess. Good luck with it Johnny.
