Hey everyone, I would love to hear members' experiences in the ring, lessons learned, what you have coming up next (so we can support each other, if necessary), etc. Along those lines, I have a recent experience to relate: I just fought in a Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament. I won one and lost one, and the one I lost was because I was outpointed by the other fighter. For those who don't know, amateur boxing counts "hits" as a point and whomever has the most in a round, wins the round. Unfortunately for me, I was fighting a power game, because every other set of rules I fight under values power and damage delivered. Lesson to be learned - strive to immerse yourself in a rule set if you are going to compete. I know that is hard, especially if you fight in EVERYTHING, like I do, but it will mean the difference between winning and losing (if you are concerned with such). I am fighting in another amateur boxing event this weekend against a youngster with jackhammers for hands, and you can bet I will definitely be playing "tag" in an effort to win!! ;D

Phillip,
I've done some amateur boxing also... great experience. I never bothered fighting for points. I dont care much about my win/ lose record... I just do sporting combat events for the experience and the lessons I can learn in them. I've been lucky thus far in boxing... 6 and 1 so far (lost my first match by points when I was 16). That taught me to be more agressive in the ring.

I had 12 boxing matches from aged 11 to 14, of which I only won 2. I sucked,
I have had only 1 sub-grappling match, which I won by armbar.
I have a sport BJJ match on July 3rd I think.
