You might look into Grappler's Toolbox.
Also, the "science of soccer" has more researched based studies and suggestions than any other field I've found in lower body agility.

Wow! I'm showing this to my police training partners.
What would I do? I don't know, but on my back I'd have to clinch(hug) his upper body under his armpits to prevent extension of his arms to reach my weapon and then try to sweep him.

I'm training a couple of guys now who want to both have a "Liddell Style". One is a former wrestler and golden gloves boxer. He has adapted the style well. Before, I could clinch and take him down with ease, now with the Liddell style he is very tough to get hold of. I taught him a little of Cro Crop's anti-grappling also.
I've studied Liddell hard. I appreciate him more and more. I can't explain why everything works, but much of his success comes from his footwork. His footwork is his first defense. Second is that as soon as you grab him he becomes a wrestler again.

In my opinon, weight training for MMA should focus on "core" activation and muscular endurance.

I have done some in JKD. The problem is "Sparring" or lack of. The concepts are good, but the same as any throwing/grappling art. The best thing a Silat practicioner can do to become more effective is study Judo, Sambo or Wrestling for about 6 months...with lots of randori.
What Silat can add to the jacket grappler is the "little in betweens", like stepping on the foot within a throw.
Burton Richarson said he is planning to put out a "Functional Silat" DVD. I think it would be interesting.

Combo of single top wristlock, with other arm figure foured and reverse half neckcrank. All done together.
Or anything from head and arm position.

How do you use new instructional resources?
Do you have a method?
I usually view the entire product 2 or 3 times straight through. Then, a review 2 or 3 more times, this time stopping occasionally and rewatching certain parts. Sometimes, I take notes and sometimes I don't. All the while, I add 2 or 3 selected new tactics to my training.
Depending on my training schedule at the time, I may review a certain part again if it relates to something I will be teaching.
I then put it on the shelf. Maybe a month or two later I'll watch the entire thing again. I always miss something.
If it's a bad resource, I'll give it a couple of viewings and take it as a loss. I rarely get bad products, for my research beforehand.
Bill, I'd really like to know your method. I know you have many resources.
Thanks,
Robert

- The body of Bob Sapp
- The Cardio of Randy Couture
- The Takedowns of Mark Coleman
- The throws of Karo Parizyan
- The Ground and pound of Fedor
- The high kicks of Cro-cop
- The elbows of David Louiaso (The crow)
- The knees of Silva
- The boxing of a young Mike Tyson
- The submissions of Gokor
- The chin of Mark Hunt
- The grappling positional ability of Fedor
Vince, I'd have to agree with you 100%! I couldn't debate anything you said. The only thing I would add is the ring generalship and low kicks of Sakuraba.
