Well guys back from the Arnolds and had a great time , Watched the Gracie Fighting challange NHB show Friday. Which was very well done and had some top notch fighters, Linland , wes sims, daneil gracie. Chris brennen, sholin rebiero... great fights . Also Got to meet , Randy coutore, Don frye , Stephen bonnor , joe riggs and just a bunch of other cool guys.. (don is the man thats all I can say what a funny guy)
The gi event sat , went pretty normal , Reported at 8am was supposed to fight at 9- I fought at 3pm,, My last guy got off the mat at 1am .. 17hours for a bjj tourny d**n... I had a good match only 4 guys in my div and one is a buddy so win or lose I would have only had 1 match . Match started with me in open gaurd, looking to sweep or take a leg, after 4 min I took a footlock and Really put it on hard .. the guys foot really sounded bad... I couldnt believe he didnt tap pretty slow match looked for a sweep and the guy pa*sed gaurd, I reversed postion pa*sed 1 leg moving to mount and time expired. so close Loser 3-2 d**n..Felt good for first brown belt match.
As far as my guys Big brian Gold in Super Heavy James wade Gold in Heavy Lanky Mike Broze in light heavy Little mark ,and big mark place 4th in there div... Some of these div had 40 people per bracket so one of my guys ,one 3 matchs and didnt make it to the final 4 wow ... Big congrats to everybody who went ,, good job team grappling concepts!!!!! Rmata Represent!!!!!

I'll send vince a pic of me and the gi with the logo's there very cool. And leglocks are very restricted but at white belt you have basic ankle lock.(which is still ok for white belts, I have all my guys drilling this hard. ) blue belt footlock is ok ,purple same, and brown and black are free for all. So I hope to take someones foot home with me as a gift:) we'll see some pretty tough brown belts out there.

Ok , here i come the guy who loves the gaurd to defend it .. Pretty easy if the guys got better takedowns than me I pull guard because I know I should be better there. If my guy wants guard I keep it standing and try to put them to the mat hard. Pretty easy. At a high level of comp. a advatage or single point can decide the day. So you better play a smart game ... And nobody should want gaurd in a real fight ... But I have used it .. check my story out on the catch thread..

Man , you guys do your homework.... I watch it then do it. Is that Ok:) Bill's right if you cant metally put it together. Then you can watch it a hundred times. I watch a video or read a book in one sitting and pick 3-4 things I think I can add to my game and then spend twice the time breaking down the smallest details ,(grips , hand placement ,hip movement, bla bla) and go try it. I often am suprised how quick you can add things to your game. My biggest thing I try to convey to my students is to buy instructional's that our at your skill set. If your a white belt you need to cover the basics , not go out and buy the latest x-gaurd sweeps . As Royler told a student of mine in a private lesson (he was a 4month white belt)Qoute: why should I teach you jiujitsu of 2006 when you dont have jiujitsu of 1995 . ..... NO hurry we all have the rest of our life .. seeya on the mat JW. www.graciestlouis.com

Hi Everybody,
First let me say I very happy to be involved with a great group of people.

Married almost 9 years - one child ( Liam) who is the joy of my life. Just turned 2 and did his first armbar a month ago.... and thinks every book is jitsu... cant say the whole thing yet.
Been training Martial arts almost 15 years . Like most started with Karate, Tkd , Jkd. Judo. Got pretty serious about 8 years ago with Sambo and recieved a blackbelt. Over the last few years I've pretty much just done Brazilian Jiujitsu. With Royler Gracie and David adiv. which I run a affilated acadamey. I recieved a purple belt under RGDA a couple years ago. And between the people here at the Rmata and RGDA I'm very cofindent in the future. I hope to meet many of you very soon. See ya on the mat........JW

Thanks guy's it is a great honor that David has bestowed on me. I fell very lucky and still feel like a white belt in heart. It makes me want to really try that much harder... Wow what a month , First I go to Ca. And get to train with Grandmaster Helio, do some privates with Rener(loads of good stuff)And roll with some other brown and purples.(that doesnt happen to much for me here in the middle of nowwhere!!) Then come home, David comes in and promotes a ton of my guy's( who were way overdue) and then gives me a brown!! (which I still feel funny putting it on.. not so much pressure with the purple...holy crap .... what a great month....by the way I have another kid on the way does it get any better. Man I'm one lucky SOB thanks again guys hope to see you soon.

Me to bro, me to.... I feel I was pretty nieve to the real world before that day. Sounds bad but every body is a bad guy in the hood until proven differant. You have to think you have to go home to the family every night. And no bad guy is worth me not seeing my kid (kids in a couple weeks.)

Ohh I just wanted to tell you guys a little J-dub true life story on the gaurd (for Victor)
I work in downtown St Louis...And have delt with some really crazy, bad people. ( I buy homes and rehab them) from crackheads jumping out the windows to stuff to funny to talk about hear.
I'll skip the why but.. I tell a gentleman to calm down or he will be fired. I turn to speak to another person and smash a fist has pounded my face. I look at him in disbelief and I feel blood in my mouth. He runs about 60 feet before I catch him....Scramble scramble thai clinch and we end up in a pit the city is working on the streets (mind you I'm in my dress shirt, pants and very slick dress shoes.) I lock on the choke and go to gaurd tighting the choke.. few mouments later I role him over as he has went to sleep and I still am bleeding.... Moral of the story if you end up in a pit with a crack head and the gaurd helps put him to sleep you beter use it... JW

Hey Bill,
Could you explain to me alittle bit about Catch. What makes it good bla bla bla... I've seen Tony C vids and not to impressed but have always wondered what good things catch had to offer. My Grandfather was in the same army unit as Lou Thez and I've been doing some research on him. So any good vids or other info would be cool. Just trying to open the no gi mind alittle:) THx JW
