I need some suggestions on throwing a Jab without telegraphing the punch.
Recently one of my sparing partners pointed out that I have a tendency to telegraph my jab by turning my elbow out and up. I guess this is a common mistake.
I have been focusing on keeping my elbows in while shadow boxing. However, my left shoulder pops almost every time I jab (when I focus on keeping my elbow in tight). I have also noticed some irritation in the inside (funny bone area) of my elbow. Dose anyone have experience with think kind of thing? Thanks in advance.

I can’t argue with Chuck’s success. He defiantly seems to be the 'anti-grappler' (being an excellent grappler him self).

I have posted the URL to crossfit.com ‘Exercises’. Scroll down to the section labeled Misc Demos, there is a video of John Hackleman demonstrating how to throw a left hook (it’s the 11th link) What do you guys think about keeping the hands out and low (like Chuck Liddell.) during a fight? Dose the shoulder offer as much protection for the chin as hands/arms? I understand what John is saying however, I am not sure that I buy into it. I am not convinced that I or anyone else with an average ‘chin’ should learn to strike like Chuck Liddell. Chuck’s ability to take blows to the chin allows him (so far) to get away with this type of stance. I am not convinced that this approach would be affective for most of us. Thoughts??? www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html

I have no plans to start bone hardening training. I wonder what kind of long term effects that kind of thing has. I am almost 29 and over-all-health/longevity are becoming priorities in my training (I have not had much time to train lately because I am lazy and I am in Graduate School). I think that with any combat sport there are risks but I am not going to be purposely altering my bones. I agree with what you said about priorities. I do find what the human body can adapt to fascinating.

I thought this was interesting, not so much the power of the impact ( as this would be next to impossible to use on a moving opponent) but the idea of conditioning bones. What are your thoughts on 'hard body training/ wolf's law? I know that it probably takes a long time to build yourself up ( time that could be used training useful techniques). Could this kind of thing be useful if trained for a short time each day to maybe strengthen hand bones? www.filecabi.net/video/body-as-weapon.htmlMarc

Thanks donmgwinn, I have seen the names of these styles pop up from time to time on the Internet. Over Christmas I was talking to my brother-in-law about martial arts. He mentioned that one of his friends was trying to get him to try out Krav Maga. I guess this particular school bills its self on an introductory 'boot camp' of sorts. You don't actually sleep in bunks but you go through 6 weeks of supposedly intense training and you come out a BAD A$$! LOL! He said that they beat the heck out of you etc. I just smiled and said that I have heard of this style and cautioned him not to trust a school that uses such Matt Furey-esq marketing. Thanks again for the input. Oh yeah this school is in Peoria Illinois has anyone herd of the place I am talking about?

Krav Magna or Systema? I have been hearing about these two martial arts on some other forums.
