I took one cla*s on it once at the Inosanto Academy. Not really my thing, from the little I saw of it. I'd love to learn more about it though.

Danny inosanto has been flying my friend and teacher steve over from london to La every couple of months to teach at the academy. Cliff stewart has also been training in the style, and wesley snipes... The problem with silat is the quality varies greatly, and different styles emphasise different aspects... It can be a great art, or shockingly poor.... but its not for everyone

I have done some in JKD. The problem is "Sparring" or lack of. The concepts are good, but the same as any throwing/grappling art. The best thing a Silat practicioner can do to become more effective is study Judo, Sambo or Wrestling for about 6 months...with lots of randori.
What Silat can add to the jacket grappler is the "little in betweens", like stepping on the foot within a throw.
Burton Richarson said he is planning to put out a "Functional Silat" DVD. I think it would be interesting.
