Hey folks, a buddy of mine got me started doing these and I have seen quick gains in a small amount of time. There are a few types of heavy hand grippers, but the ones I've been using are the "Captains of Crush. You can see them here; www6.mailordercentral.com/ironmind/products.asp?dept=8There go in difficulty ranges from a number 1 to a number 4 strength. There are only like 5 guys certified to have ever closed a number 4, and about 100 guys certified to have closed a number 3. They also have some weaker ones below #1 if you need to get started there. I started with a number one and could do it like 15 times, and now I'm doing it for reps of 60 several times a day. I've got my number 2 gripperes ordered and it should arrive any day. I've noticed great strength gains in my hands and forearms in a short time, so I highly recommend these!

A funny story about my buddy who got my started on these... he's been a student of mine for years but I didn't know he was crazy about working grip strength. He is one of the few guys in the world who can close a number 3 gripper. Anyway, we were in cla*s and I needed someone with a strong grip to come up so I could demonstrate a simple grab escape. I choose him and had him grab my wrist. I began struggling with the technique to escape and looked at him perplexed as I had never had to muscle through the technique like that, since I was really only attacking his thumb. He explained his grip strength exploits to me and the whole cla*s had a laugh. After that I began working on my grip strength to try and catch up with him!

Bill, how many times are you closing the number 2? I heard that they brought one of those to the Arnold's this year and none of the bodybuilders could close it. I'll have to check the sourse on that though... maybe it was a number 3.

I mainly use the #1 for sets of anywhere from 5-10 but I use the #2 occasionally for heavier work. I can close the #2 twice with my right hand and once (barely) with the left. Great training tool for sure.

I was actually looking for these for the longest time now. I used to use these when I worked at UPS as a package handler they helped out emensly with gripping ropes or cords on heavy packages and I've been looking for them to really get that extra added tightness on gi chokes. I definatly appreciate you guys postin this up

The ironmind grippers are very good. However, the jump between the #1 and #2 is pretty high. Weightlifters warehouse makes grippers of high quality with less difference between each gripper. www.wwfitness.com/

Captains of Crush are the best. Mine still has the best of me I used to use the plastic handle cheapo models. Kept it in the car and could do it about 100 tmes with each hand. I got the COC at Bill's recommendation and was like holy nuts! I am trying to build my grip strength back up after my surgery. An interesting thing about grippers is that they will really increase your heart rate. I kept mine in the car because I drive so much that when I got sleepy I would use my gripper in both hands and then be wide awake. Bill has a very strong grip. I used to from years of FMA training. It helped in my grappling and Sombo to have great grip strength. Wrist control in wrestling and gi control in jacket arts is paramount. There is nothing quite like that look on someone's face when you grab them and they feel like they have been bitten by a gator. Or when you shake hands and they put the squeeze on you trying to impress you... until you squeeze back.
